Baden-Württemberg: Lights off: First cities in Baden-Württemberg are saving energy

Because of the energy crisis, many municipalities are in economy mode. In Baden-Württemberg, individual cities therefore turn off street lighting at night or at least reduce it. But you also want to avoid people feeling unsafe in the dark.

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - Dark cities because of the energy crisis? No, because lighting is compulsory in public spaces. In this way, "anxious dreams" should also be avoided. Traffic safety must also be guaranteed. Municipalities in Baden-Württemberg come up with some ideas to save. The temperature is also partially reduced in buses.

According to a city spokeswoman, the lighting in Mannheim is only reduced. There should be no "anxious dreams". That is why the municipal security service is on the move to an unchanged extent. In the city, all effect lighting was switched off. In streets with little traffic, a so-called half-night switch is used, i.e. the lighting is not in operation there from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (RNV) intends to lower the interior temperature of buses and trains to a minimum of 15 degrees. According to a spokesman, this depends on the vehicle type and can also be higher. In addition, the automatic opening of the doors is no longer provided. "Passengers must press the stop request button in good time when they want to get off."
