Baden-Württemberg: Loud and colourful: Christopher Street Day in Stuttgart

Finally a normal CSD in Stuttgart again. Thousands of participants from the queer community want to send political messages in addition to the traditionally cheerful and colorful parade.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After the restrictions imposed by the corona pandemic, thousands of people want to gather in Stuttgart on Saturday (3.30 p.m.) to parade through the city center on Christopher Street Day. According to the organizers, 100 groups with up to 25,000 participants have registered. In 2021, only 7,000 people ran.

In the past, thousands of cheering spectators lined the route. The organizer of the parade, which was registered as a demonstration, is the Christopher Street Day Stuttgart interest group.

Patron for Stuttgart "PRIDE 2022!" under the motto "Community.Power.Europe" this year is President of the State Parliament Muhterem Aras. In view of anti-queer developments in Europe, the Green politician said in advance: "Here, too, we must not rest on our laurels on Europe's political and legal successes of the past."

Christopher Street Day is celebrated worldwide. The movement dates back to events in June 1969 when New York police officers stormed a bar on Christopher Street, sparking a gay, lesbian and trans riot.
