Baden-Württemberg: Lucha wants to maintain corona protection measures for the time being

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Despite the end of the corona pandemic, Minister of Health Manne Lucha (Greens) appeals to the population to continue to maintain protective measures. A spokesman for his ministry said on Tuesday in Stuttgart: “General infection control measures such as wearing mouth and nose protection have a dampening effect on the infection process, especially during the respiratory infection season.” The development of respiratory infections will continue to be closely monitored.

The spokesman went on to say that if the infection rate subsides, the corona protection measures could be further adjusted, for example by changing from a legal requirement to a recommendation for responsible behavior, as has already happened in some cases. Like Christian Drosten, head of virology at the Berlin University Hospital Charité, Lucha also sees the end of the corona pandemic.

FDP parliamentary group leader Hans-Ulrich Rülke said that Drosten had declared the corona pandemic over, so all measures could also be omitted. "In particular, the obligation to wear masks in public transport. I call on the state government to decide to end this obligation to wear masks at the turn of the year."
