Baden-Württemberg: Lucha welcomes reform of citizenship law

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Integration Manne Lucha (Greens) has welcomed the planned reform of citizenship law. "As a modern immigration country, we need modern citizenship law in order to become more attractive in global competition and to retain skilled workers," he told the German Press Agency on Sunday. Participation opportunities for those who have been contributing to society for a long time must be strengthened. "On the one hand, we are showing that integration efforts are worthwhile and, on the other hand, we are strengthening the identification of people with an immigrant background with our country."

The SPD, Greens and FDP had agreed in their coalition agreement that people from abroad should be able to obtain German citizenship more easily in Germany. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) is now driving the issue forward. The Union had criticized the reform plans.
