Baden-Württemberg: Man after death drive from Mannheim not able to be questioned

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - The man who is said to have killed his father in Rhineland-Palatinate and killed a cyclist in Mannheim is currently not able to be questioned. As a police spokesman reported on Tuesday, the 36-year-old collapsed when he was arrested and has not been responsive since then. According to previous knowledge, the suspect who was mentally ill had been on the run and finally jumped into the Rhine in Mannheim. The water police rescued him from the river. According to the police spokesman, it is unclear when he can be questioned.

The man is said to have killed his 69-year-old father in Ellerstadt on Sunday evening. He then fled in his mother's car in the direction of Mannheim, where he apparently intentionally rammed four cyclists. A 71-year-old died. Two men are still in the hospital with serious injuries, and a third was released from the clinic on Monday. After colliding with the cyclists, the 36-year-old got out of the car and jumped into the adjacent Rhine.

The investigations into both cases are being conducted by the public prosecutor's office in Mannheim. There were initially no details about the circumstances of the father's death, such as the cause of death.
