Ulm (dpa / lsw) - On the edge of the International Danube Festival in Ulm, a man died trying to swim to the other bank of the river in the middle of the night. The man from Neu-Ulm jumped into the Danube on Sunday night at the festival site and went under, the police said on Monday morning. Security forces had previously tried unsuccessfully to prevent the 43-year-old from doing so. A passer-by bravely jumped in and pulled the lifeless body onto the shore. Despite resuscitation, the man died in hospital on Sunday.
The Danube Festival offers art exhibitions, music performances and discussions on both sides of the bank from Friday until next Sunday.
