Baden-Württemberg: Mannheim Mayor Kurz does not appear for a third term

Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - The Lord Mayor of Mannheim, Peter Kurz, will not run for a third term. The Social Democrat informed his employees in a letter on Wednesday morning, reported the "Mannheimer Morgen". A city hall spokesman confirmed this.

The decision not to stand in the election on June 18 next year was not easy for him, Kurz explained in the statement available to the newspaper. The 60-year-old lawyer and father of two gave both personal and substantive reasons for his decision. The Baden-Württemberg city council president cited the current general weather situation as one reason: "In a fundamental crisis, new approaches and new impetus are also needed. And for us, that often means new faces." Born in Mannheim, he came to the town hall as mayor for education, culture and sport in 1999, was elected mayor in 2007 and confirmed in office in 2015.
