Baden-Württemberg: Marius Gersbeck: Back to the KSC goal after injury

Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - With eight goals conceded, Karlsruher SC has so far been the shooting gallery of the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Christian Eichner has now announced that goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck will return to his position between the posts in the game at Greuther Fürth on Friday (6.30 p.m. / Sky). "This is very positive news for all of us," said the KSC coach on Thursday. However, this assessment has less to do with the performance of the two representatives Max Weiß and Kai Eisele, but "with the fact that I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league," said Eichner.

The hand injury that Gersbeck suffered when he hit the goal post with his fist was operated on on April 14. Eichner sees his number one in top form despite the long break. "Marius Gersbeck is extremely uncomplicated in these areas," said Karlsruhe coach. There are still major personnel concerns in defense. Christoph Kobald, Daniel O'Shaughnessy, Sebastian Jung and Florian Ballas are missing on defense, as is Kyoung-Rok Choi on offense. Eichner also does not see the use of the strikers Mikkel Kaufmann and Malik Batmaz as secured. "We will therefore probably have a manageable number of guys on the bench again," predicted the 39-year-old.

Eichner described the starting position as exciting after the hosts lost the Franconian derby and the cup: "Both teams would like to have one or the other point more. We certainly do," he said.
