Baden-Württemberg: Mayor election in three cities: Two incumbents prevail

Remseck (dpa/lsw) - In three cities in the southwest, citizens were called to the mayoral election on Sunday: In the district town of Lörrach and in Remseck (Ludwigsburg district), the incumbents prevailed. In the election in Vaihingen an der Enz (Ludwigsburg district), the citizens have to go to the ballot box again.

In Lörrach, the independent town hall boss Jörg Lutz clearly prevailed against his two competitors. He had a share of the vote of 86.7 percent, as the city announced on Sunday evening. Voter turnout was around 20.4 percent.

The incumbent also prevailed in Remseck: the independent politician Dirk Schönberger received 63.9 percent of all votes. The school social worker Martin Keim (independent) came in second place with 34.3 percent. Of the citizens entitled to vote, 28.8 percent cast their votes in the municipality.

Whoever takes over the mayor post in Vaihingen an der Enz in the future must show another choice. The mayor of Notzingen, Sven Haumacher, received the greatest approval as an independent candidate with 41.9 percent of the votes. This is followed by former Daimler manager Uwe Skrzypek with 38.9 percent. The applicants Matthias Beck (16.1 percent) and Bernd Michael Rothmann (3 percent) ended up in third and fourth place with a clear gap. According to the city, turnout was 46.8 percent. Since none of the candidates achieved the absolute majority needed to win the election, a new election is scheduled for July 24. Then a simple majority is enough.
