Tübingen (dpa/lsw) - Two women and four men are running for the mayoral election in Tübingen on October 23, including incumbent Boris Palmer as an independent candidate. Palmer's membership in the Greens is suspended until the end of 2023 because of a dispute over taboo violations and allegations of racism.

As the city announced on Tuesday after a decision by the municipal elections committee, Ulrike Baumgärtner (Greens), Sofie Geisel (SPD, supported by the FDP), Boris Palmer (independent), Markus Vogt (The Party), Sandro Vidotto (independent) are in the running. and Frank Walz (independent).

Around 69,000 residents of the student city are entitled to vote. In the event that no applicant receives more than half of the valid votes in this election, a new election is planned for November 13, 2022.

Of the original nine applicants, three were not allowed to vote because they had not submitted the required 100 valid signatures or no certificate of eligibility by the application deadline on Monday evening at 6:00 p.m.

The official candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves at an event on October 5 (7:00 p.m.). You each have 12 minutes to present yourself.
