Leipzig/Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - The mayor of Karlsruhe and SPD politician Frank Mentrup has been confirmed at the head of the library association. The new vice president is the Greens member of the Bundestag, Renate Künast, as the association announced on Thursday in Leipzig. The organization represents more than 9,000 libraries nationwide.
"Libraries are important places for social and cultural exchange and must be part of modern urban development," said Künast in a video message for the general meeting. The former Federal Minister said that she wanted to work together with other responsible parties to ensure that libraries were well equipped in accordance with their importance.
