Baden-Württemberg: Minister of Finance invited to the CDU parliamentary group for the renovation of the opera

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz will discuss the planned billion-dollar renovation of the Stuttgart Opera with the CDU parliamentary group next Tuesday. The parliamentary group had invited the Greens politician and he had accepted, confirmed the spokesman for the Ministry of Finance and the CDU parliamentary group of the German Press Agency on Thursday in Stuttgart. The Union is questioning the previous planning in view of the crisis and the price increases and wants to have cheaper variants for the renovation checked.

CDU faction leader Manuel Hagel said on Tuesday that the decision could only be made with reliable data, facts and alternatives. "We therefore first need an up-to-date cost estimate and the in-depth examination of more cost-effective variants. That is the basis for every decision."

On Tuesday, the CDU will also deal with the establishment of a project company for the renovation of the opera. The Green coalition partner had already cleared the way last Tuesday and approved a corresponding cabinet proposal. The state and the city of Stuttgart want to share the financing of the project. Whether the previous budget of more than one billion euros can be maintained is strongly questioned.

Without a doubt, the 100-year-old opera house needs a general renovation, and it's bursting at the seams. Among other things, a modern so-called cross stage should make it possible to change the stage set faster and easier, more space is needed for rehearsal rooms, for example, the roof from 1911 is dilapidated and the gastronomy is no longer up to date. The directorship has also registered a larger usable area.
