Baden-Württemberg: Minister of Transport fears full trains because of the 9-euro ticket

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - At the start of the 9-euro ticket, Baden-Württemberg's Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) fears that the trains will be overloaded. The danger is particularly great on the upcoming Pentecost weekend, as Hermann said on Wednesday in Stuttgart. He is curious whether the capacities are sufficient.

There is also a risk that fares will rise again after the 9-euro ticket, said Hermann. According to the Greens politician, the federal government is providing too little money to finance the 9-euro ticket. According to Hermann, it is the taxpayers who ultimately have to pay. "We will fight - have to fight - for the next federal budget so that there are significantly more funds for local rail passenger transport."

In June, July and August, the special tickets are intended to enable travel in local and regional transport throughout Germany - for 9 euros a month each, which is much cheaper than normal monthly tickets. This is part of the traffic light coalition's relief package because of high energy prices. At the same time, it should be a trial campaign to attract more passengers and encourage them to switch from their cars.
