Baden-Württemberg: Ministries want to create almost 9,000 new jobs

Crisis? What crisis? The departments are happily reporting additional expenditure in the billions and want to create thousands of new jobs. There will inevitably be many disappointments.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Despite the difficult budget situation, the ministries of the Greens and CDU have announced the creation of 8959 new jobs in the state administration. This emerges from a list by the Ministry of Finance for the further budget consultations, which is available to the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. It is considered certain that only a small part of the new posts will be approved. Nevertheless, Minister of Education Theresa Schopper (Greens) alone has applied for 4,493 new jobs, especially for schools, for the next two years. According to the will of the green-black coalition, she should get some new jobs in the double budget for 2023/2024, but by no means as many as she requested.

Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) wants to create 2741 new jobs, in particular to strengthen the regional councils and the police. His judicial colleague Marion Gentges pushed for 604 new posts and Minister of Agriculture Peter Hauk (both CDU) for 407. The list from the Ministry of Finance also shows that the departments have requested additional spending totaling 7.75 billion euros. However, the scope for additional expenditure in the double budget is only 890 million euros. Strobl alone has reported a requirement of almost 1.4 billion euros. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann and Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (both Green) had repeatedly called for moderation.
