Künzelsau (dpa/lsw) - The Notos Quartet has received the Würth Prize from Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland (JMD), which is endowed with 25,000 euros. Reinhold Würth, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Würth Foundation, presented the award to the musicians on Monday evening in Künzelsau (Hohenlohe district), said a press spokeswoman for JMD. The quartet received the award for "passionate and expressive" interpretations and yet "personal points of contact and permeability," it said in justification.
The ensemble members Sindri Lederer (violin), Andrea Burger (viola), Philip Graham (violoncello) and Antonia Köster (piano) were also honored for their commitment to promoting talent. The eulogy was held by clarinettist, conductor and composer Jörg Widmann, who was awarded the Würth Prize last year.
The prize has been awarded every year since 1991 to artists who fulfill the values and objectives of the JMD in an exemplary manner. This year it is endowed with 25,000 for the first time. In recent years, the conductor Gustavo Dudamel (2008), the percussionist Martin Grubinger (2010) and ensembles such as the STEGREIF.orchester (2018) have received awards.
