Over several days, the French street artist Mantra painted a picture of a scabious fritillary on a house wall in Heidelberg. He finished the job over the weekend. According to the university, the butterfly is an example of a large number of species that are threatened with extinction.
The mural campaign wants to use the interdisciplinary research network "Environments - Upheavals - Rethinking" as an opportunity for discussions with citizens and visitors. "A central theme should also be the relationship between art and science: What contribution can both make in the face of an omnipresent environmental crisis - also in combination - in order to recognize and describe room for maneuver and to use it for an ecological upheaval?" It said . The aim of the network is therefore to analyze the current environmental crisis and its effects on individuals and society in a dialogue between the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
