Baden-Württemberg: partial vaccination requirement: so far without harsh sanctions

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - More than four months after the beginning of the corona vaccination obligation for employees in retirement homes and clinics, the health authorities have not yet imposed a single ban on activity or entry. On Thursday, the Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart confirmed corresponding information from the daily newspapers "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and "Stuttgarter Nachrichten".

The ministry reported in June that the first fines had been levied. According to the information at the time, more than 450 fines were pending against nurses who, despite being required to do so, could not provide proof of vaccination.

The rule has been in effect since mid-March. Since then, clinics, homes and facilities, practices and outpatient services have had to report employees to the health department who have not been vaccinated or have recovered or who have doubts about the authenticity of the evidence presented.

"Of course we are in regular contact with the offices and they have informed us that they are currently still in the phase of hearing and examining the individual administrative procedure," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The health authorities consider each case individually when checking compulsory vaccination. First, an attempt is made to convince those affected of the measure. If no rethinking is in sight, the office can prohibit entry to the workplace and the activity carried out there "within a reasonable period of time". A fine of up to 2500 euros is also possible. However, the operators can also try to find individual solutions to ensure the protection of vulnerable groups. These included, for example, activities remote from patients or special hygiene measures for employees in order to avoid bans on entry.

The Baden-Württemberg Hospital Society had already called for the institution-related compulsory vaccination to be suspended. This is perceived as unfair in the health sector.
