Baden-Württemberg: Pilot project to improve traffic in Stuttgart

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Traffic in Stuttgart should become smoother, safer and more environmentally friendly - that is the goal of a new project with hundreds of volunteer drivers. The city wants to collect vehicle, traffic and environmental data and link it digitally, as announced by the state capital on Monday. This makes it possible to determine how weather, traffic and driving behavior are related. Accordingly, strategies are to be developed on the basis of the data on how traffic flow, road safety and, last but not least, air quality can be improved.

We are looking for 500 people who regularly travel by car in Stuttgart and who are willing to have their driving data tracked.

According to the city, the "Digital Traffic Flow Optimization" project is unique because it moves away from mean values that are often not very meaningful and focuses on individual cars. For example, the test drivers step on the gas more frequently in certain areas in order to quickly get through a red traffic light if this area were examined more closely. Construction sites, for example, should also be able to be better planned in this way.
