Baden-Württemberg: Prisoners should have access to computers in cells

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - prisoners in Baden-Württemberg should have access to computers in the prison cells. The government coalition of the Greens and the CDU wants to test so-called cell media systems in a pilot project. This should make the prisoners fit for their return to society, as the government factions announced on Saturday in Stuttgart. The media system includes television, telephony and the Internet in the cell, of course with the appropriate restrictions, explained the legal policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Arnulf Freiherr von Eyb.

200,000 euros are estimated for the pilot project "Resocialization through digitization". It is scheduled to start in individual prisons in 2024. "The offer will always be part of a resocialization process in which the convicts have to actively participate in prison," Justice Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) told the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" (Saturday).
