Baden-Württemberg: Railway company SWEG warns travelers of the consequences of a strike

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The railway company SWEG has warned travelers in the southwest of the consequences of a strike. The company announced on its website that operational disruptions are to be expected from (today) Thursday (02:00 a.m.). The GDL union had announced the walkout at short notice in the ongoing wage dispute.

According to the information, larger strike effects are to be expected in the Stuttgart network and in the Neckar valley of the subsidiary SWEG Bahn Stuttgart GmbH (SBS). The walkout is expected to last until Tuesday (2 a.m.). The railway company asked users to find out more about the timetable information on sweg.de, bwegt.de, bahn.de or in the DB Navigator before traveling.

In the past few weeks, the GDL had repeatedly called for warning strikes and, after a ballot, for strikes at the state-owned Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH (SWEG) - most recently from last Friday to Monday. According to the company, the effects were limited, only in the SBS network around Stuttgart were there major restrictions.

The wage dispute is about the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) not only wanting to negotiate a wage agreement for SBS, but for the entire SWEG group with its 1,800 employees. However, SWEG does not want to take over the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg - today SBS - permanently. The Abellio daughter got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years.
