Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Sophia and Noah - these were the most popular first names in Baden-Württemberg in 2022. They are at the top of the ranking by first name expert Knud Bielefeld. The statistics of the hobby name researcher were published in Ahrensburg (Schleswig-Holstein) and are available from the German Press Agency.
For girls, Sophia is followed by the names Mia, Emma and Lina as well as Emilia. Among the boys, alongside Noah, the names Elias, Leon, Luca and Matteo are in the top 5.
For the nationwide evaluation, Bielefeld and his team used first name data from 423 cities. 67 percent of the data comes from registry offices and the rest from maternity hospitals. According to its own information, Bielefeld has recorded around 250,000 birth reports. This corresponds to about 34 percent of babies born in Germany. The hobby name researcher has been publishing first name rankings since 2006.
