The German Weather Service (DWD) recorded the highest temperature in the country on New Year's Eve in Müllheim (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) and in Ohlsbach (Ortenaukreis) with 20.3 degrees each, as a spokesman announced on Sunday. Metzingen (Reutlingen district) was just behind with 19.8 degrees.

According to the DWD, the state capital Stuttgart had the mildest December day since weather records began with 19.1 degrees.

It was only warmer in Bavaria: In Wielenbach in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau, the weather experts recorded the highest temperature in Germany at 20.8 degrees on New Year's Eve. In Munich it was 20 degrees. According to the information, it was only warmer on a December day in Müllheim in southern Baden - with 24 degrees on December 16, 1989.
