Baden-Württemberg: referee breaks off football game because of insults

Alfdorf (dpa / lsw) - Because he is said to have been insulted by players and called a racist, a referee in Alfdorf (Rems-Murr-Kreis) stopped a football game prematurely. According to police on Monday, the situation escalated when the referee showed a member of the away team a red card just before the end of the game. The referee was then surrounded by players from the visiting team and insulted several times.

The playing community Alfdorf/Hintersteinenberg and TSK Türkgücu Schwäbisch Gmünd played against each other on Sunday afternoon. According to initial police findings, insults are said to have occurred on both sides during the game and after it was stopped. Fans of both teams stormed the soccer field. In the end the game was 1:2. When the police arrived, the situation had largely calmed down, officials said.
