Expectations are high, time is short: before the refugee summit in Stuttgart, the cities, municipalities and districts are hoping for a clear concession from the state. But the government is cautious. Because there are only a few free places and not much money.
Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Before the so-called refugee summit on Wednesday (4.30 p.m.) in Stuttgart, cities, municipalities and districts increased the pressure on the country. A clear concession is expected as well as a clear signal to the traffic light coalition, the municipal associations let know in advance. At least the state government hopes that the two-and-a-half-hour meeting in the New Palace will result in more than just symbols. "The goal is to strengthen the community of responsibility between those involved," Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann put it rather vaguely on Tuesday. But the talks would not be easy.
Under pressure from the municipalities, the Prime Minister invited the relevant ministries and the chairmen of all parliamentary groups in the state parliament at the end of October, as well as the central municipal associations and representatives from business, employment agencies and civil society. Questions of admission, accommodation and integration of the people should be discussed. The absorption capacities of the state, the cities and municipalities are largely exhausted. According to the Ministry of Migration, around 170,000 refugees and migrants have arrived in the southwest so far, 142,000 of them from Ukraine alone.
