Baden-Württemberg: Report: The number of accidents involving e-scooters is increasing sharply

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to a media report, the number of accidents with e-scooters in the southwest is higher than ever. In the first half of 2022, the police recorded 359 accidents involving drivers of electrically powered scooters, as reported by the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and "Stuttgarter Nachrichten". In the same period last year, however, 197 accidents were registered.

50 people suffered serious injuries in e-scooter accidents in the first six months of this year. In the first half of 2019, 19 serious injuries were registered. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the most common causes of accidents are a lack of roadworthiness, excessive speed and violation of the right-of-way rules. Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) announced in the newspapers that the police would "increasely point out to users of e-scooters the applicable traffic rules and rules of conduct".
