Baden-Württemberg: Saw manufacturer Stihl is building a new plant in Romania

Waiblingen (dpa/lsw) - The chain saw and garden tool manufacturer Stihl is investing around 125 million euros in a new plant for cordless and electronic products in Romania. In Oradea near the Hungarian border, around 500 jobs are to be created in the long term, as the family business announced in Waiblingen on Tuesday.

Batteries are currently in high demand. So far, they have mainly been manufactured in a factory in Tyrol, Austria. In April, STIHL reported that cordless tools accounted for around a fifth of total production. At the same time, petrol devices remained in demand, it had been said.

The group turned over a good five billion euros last year. From its own point of view, STIHL is the world market leader for chainsaws and operates plants in Europe, Asia and South America. Nine tenths of sales are generated outside of Germany.
