Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Several million people in Baden-Württemberg will receive official hazard warnings via various alarm channels on Thursday at 11 a.m. During the nationwide warning day, the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance tests how well the technical infrastructure works. The all-clear is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
In the test run, many municipalities are using digital direct messages in addition to sirens. Cell broadcast alerts to cell phones and other mobile devices are said to be available in most cities and towns. A notification is sent to every mobile phone that has reception at this time. Warnings should also be given via radio and television, via warning apps like Nina, and the warning will also be read on city information boards.
However, many sirens will also remain silent on the second warning day. Large cities like Freiburg deliberately do without siren tests, in other communities there are only a few or no sirens that work anymore. There will be no sirens in Heidelberg, Stuttgart and Göppingen either.
