Baden-Württemberg: Senior dies after an apartment fire

Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - A senior succumbed to his serious injuries after a fire in a ground floor apartment in Karlsruhe. The 81-year-old died in a hospital on Tuesday, police said. The fire caused damage of around half a million euros. For initially unknown reasons, it broke out on Monday on the ground floor of the apartment building. Rescue workers brought the senior from the burning apartment. He was taken to the hospital with severe burn injuries. The fire brigade rescued residents of the upper floors using a turntable ladder. Another resident was also taken to the hospital.
