Giengen (dpa / lsw) - He stopped at an intersection, was driving in the opposite lane and finally ended up with his car in the ditch: With his dangerous driving style, a 77-year-old driver in the Heidenheim district called the police and fire brigade on several occasions. As the investigators announced on Thursday, the man was noticed on Monday in Herbrechtingen because of several traffic violations. Witnesses reported that the man with his car, among other things, did not stay in his lane, drove into oncoming traffic and ultimately stopped in a meadow.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the driver then lost control of his car twice in a curve in Giengen. The first time the car landed in the grass verge and the fire brigade had to use winches to recover it. Just a day later, he was driving down an embankment very close by. Again, the fire department recovered the car.
The police are now checking whether the man is no longer able to drive safely due to his health. The officials pointed out that sight and hearing as well as reaction times decrease with age and appealed to all road users to take responsibility.
