Rheinstetten/Malsch (dpa/lsw) - Firefighters responded to several wildfires in the Karlsruhe district on Saturday. At Epplesee in Rheinstetten, a field caught fire in the afternoon for reasons that have not yet been clarified, according to the fire brigade. Passers-by initially tried to put out the fire. However, the wind fanned the flames further.
Almost at the same time there was a fire in a corn field in Malsch. According to the fire brigade, a stubble field of around two hectares burned in the area of the model airfield. Later there was also a wildfire in Kraichtal-Oberöwisheim. No one was injured in the fires, the causes of which were also unclear.
Several smaller fires broke out nationwide on Saturday due to heat and drought. On Sunday it could be up to 37 degrees hot again. The DWD indicated the risk of forest fires in the southwest as high to very high.
