Baden-Württemberg: ship burns on the Rhine: larger fire service

Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - A burning cargo ship on the Rhine near Karlsruhe triggered a major fire brigade operation early Thursday evening. One person was slightly injured. The fire broke out in the engine compartment of the two-part pushed convoy, the fire brigade said. Accordingly, the cargo ship was on the Rhineland-Palatinate side when the emergency services arrived. In addition to a respiratory protection squad, the fire brigade also fought the fire from the water with the fire-fighting boat "Pamina 1". It was initially unclear why the fire broke out.
