Baden-Württemberg: Southwest with record heat and cold record 2022

The year is not over yet, but meteorologists already want to present a preliminary weather report. One thing is already clear in advance: not only one record was broken in the southwest.

Offenbach/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - Too warm, too cold, too wet, too dry: In 2022, the weather in Baden-Württemberg went to all extremes, at least felt. Today, the German Weather Service (DWD) wants to present a preliminary weather report for the entire year. For New Year's Eve, meteorologists expect record heat in the southwest. On the Upper Rhine, values of up to 21 degrees could be reached during the day.

According to the DWD, autumn was also particularly warm this year. The sun appeared for a total of 358 hours. According to the meteorologists, a total of 262 liters of precipitation per square meter fell from September to the end of November.

In summer, periods of heat had people firmly in their grip. The high temperatures also made themselves felt on Lake Constance. In August, a huge carpet of algae spread in front of the municipalities of Eriskirch and Langenargen. Because of the low water in the lake, boats were stranded on dry land. The Baden-Württemberg State Institute for the Environment (LUBW) classified the summer of 2022 as hot and clearly too dry. LUBW President Ulrich Maurer said it had the potential to become the hottest in the southwest so far.

Cold records, on the other hand, were set in April. According to the DWD, the coldest temperature in April in Baden-Württemberg was measured in Meßstetten in the Zollernalb district at minus 14.6 degrees Celsius. The DWD recorded the lowest values to date on April 13, 1986 with minus 13.7 degrees on the Feldberg.
