Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The state government in Baden-Württemberg wants to create a digital model of the traffic flows in the southwest by 2025. This is intended to create forecasts for the future and thus also better planning bases, as the Ministry of Transport announced on Tuesday in Stuttgart. For the model, the current transport network with its roads, cycle paths, rails and waterways is first to be digitized. Data on the settlement and social structure should also be included.
In addition, according to the ministry, surveys of drivers, pedestrians or cyclists about their routes and traffic counts are planned from mid-March to June. The surveys are to take place on the Baden-Württemberg borders with France and the corridor from Lindau to Austria.
With the digital traffic model, the Ministry of Transport wants to find out better in the future how a detour and a new light rail line will affect traffic or where even more express cycle lanes could help. "Only if we can assess how and where how many people will move in the future can we create an attractive mobility offer," said Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) according to the statement.
