Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - After a power failure in the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in January, Interior Minister Thomas Strobl wants to start building the new LKA building faster than planned. "We will now exhaust all possibilities, whether financial, organizational or planning, in order to be able to bring forward and accelerate the start of construction," said the CDU politician of the "Südwest Presse" and the "Badische Latest News". According to the newspapers, construction had previously been planned to start in 2025.
The coalition partner agreed. "In view of the security relevance, we agree that we have to speed up the plans," Greens domestic politician Oliver Hildenbrand told the newspapers.
In January, there was a power outage in the State Criminal Police Office. As a result, some computers and servers in the State Criminal Police Office overheated, smoke developed in the building and there were problems with the IT. The outage also partially affected the computer systems of police headquarters in the country.
LKA boss Andreas Stenger spoke afterwards of a "dramatic situation". He justified the failure with the dilapidated building and outdated power rails and advocated pushing for the new building. The LKA main building was built in 1978 and was originally designed purely as an administration building.
