Baden-Württemberg: Südwestmetall boss: Energy price brake relieves only slightly

Production in Germany has become significantly more expensive, which is largely due to rising energy prices. The state wants to help with price brakes.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The boss of the employers' association Südwestmetall, Joachim Schulz, expects that only a small part of the companies will benefit from the agreed relief for electricity and gas. Schulz told the German Press Agency in Stuttgart: "Small and medium-sized companies will not benefit from the energy price brake. It will certainly cushion the peak of the increased prices for electricity and gas, but there will be no noticeable relief." Competitive prices are important, without which companies would find it difficult to stand up to their competitors abroad.

At the same time, Schulz sees narrow scope for the state to act on the issue. He cannot permanently subsidize companies with energy prices. "He doesn't have the means to do so and therefore has to do something else to ensure competitive energy prices." The high prices would contribute to production moving abroad. "But that's just the drop that makes the jug overflow." Large companies with locations abroad could withdraw production from Baden-Württemberg much more easily. In general, it has become easier to go abroad in recent decades.
