Baden-Württemberg: Südwestmetall relies on an attempt at agreement on Thursday

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the collective bargaining for the German metal and electrical industry, the IG Metall and the employers' association Südwestmetall want to reach an agreement on Thursday. "We are always interested in a constructive solution and are therefore prepared for an attempt at agreement on Thursday," said Südwestmetall's general manager Peer-Michael Dick on Tuesday of the German Press Agency. The negotiations will continue on Thursday afternoon in Ludwigsburg.

"It is clear that IG Metall wants to see larger numbers the longer the collective agreement is to apply," Dick continued. But there is a clear pain limit for the companies with the annual and permanent cost burdens. A possible collective agreement must also take into account the different situations in the companies. "For companies that are already doing badly, we urgently need sufficient relief options."

IG Metall boss Jörg Hofmann had previously indicated that he saw good chances of a pilot wage agreement for the negotiations in Ludwigsburg on Thursday. In the past few days, the employers have been sounded out and a jumping-off point created, the trade unionist told the dpa on Tuesday. The federal board of the union gave the green light for a pilot project in the Baden-Württemberg district on Monday evening.

IG Metall started the talks with a demand for eight percent more money over a period of twelve months. The employers have offered a one-off payment of 3,000 euros net for a period of 30 months, as well as an unspecified increase in the wage tables. That's a substantial offer, Dick said. "The IG Metall must now explain itself here."
