Baden-Württemberg: SWEG and train drivers' union GDL start arbitration

Lahr (dpa / lsw) - In the wage dispute between the railway company SWEG and the train driver's union GDL, the arbitration will start on Friday. Both sides announced this on Thursday. Arbitrators are Rezzo hose (Greens) for the employer side and Matthias Platzeck (SPD) for the union. Your mediation activity ends on March 10th at the latest.

"As part of the arbitration agreement, SWEG and SBS have already agreed to conclude collective agreements with the GDL," both sides said. During the talks, the collective bargaining partners do not want to provide information about the status. In the meantime, the labor dispute rests.

The background to the dispute is a collective bargaining conflict in which the GDL would like to negotiate a collective agreement for the more than 500 railway workers not only for the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg (today SBS), but for the entire SWEG group. The group has a total of 1800 employees. The SWEG rejects this and does not want to take over the SBS permanently. The Abellio daughter got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years.

Since late last summer, the GDL has repeatedly called for short-term work stoppages at SWEG and SBS. SWEG said the union had been on strike at the company for more than 630 hours.
