Baden-Württemberg: Test: Rätisgraben rest area on the A81 is the only one that convinces

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Many unmanaged rest areas in Baden-Württemberg are not necessarily inviting for drivers. In a test by the Auto Club Europa (ACE) at a total of more than 85 rest areas with and without toilets, six larger parking bays on the motorways failed, only the Rätisgraben rest area (Schwarzwald-Baar district) on the A81 liked the voluntary ACE testers " excellent".

According to ACE, there are a total of around 1,500 unmanaged rest areas on around 13,000 kilometers of motorway in Germany, and 648 have been examined. With the "Germany, your rest areas" campaign, ACE primarily wanted to draw attention to the fact that clean and inviting areas contribute to road safety. According to ACE information on Thursday, there were clear differences in quality between the places with and the often significantly worse-performing offers without a toilet.

It has been shown that not all tested facilities invite you to relax, are safe and barrier-free, said ACE spokesman Sören Heinze about the nationwide results. According to him, the tested systems without a toilet in particular performed significantly worse in all categories. "We urgently need to invest more here so that the breaks that are so important for traffic safety can be taken at all facilities," said Heinze.
