Baden-Württemberg: The number of Covid patients in intensive care units continues to rise

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of Covid 19 sufferers in the intensive care units in the southwest has increased again. As the State Health Office (LGA) announced on Thursday, the number of patients rose from 118 to 138 in a weekly comparison. 1156 patients were treated in the normal wards, 139 more than in the week before. Within a week, 63 registered deaths related to the virus were added. The total now stands at 16,456.

The seven-day incidence of new corona infections was 780.8, after a value of 681.8 in the previous week. The value indicates how many people have been infected per 100,000 inhabitants per week. However, the LGA pointed out that the data was only available as of 2:25 p.m. due to a technical problem. Normally, the data is recorded as of 4:00 p.m. The seven-day incidence will be displayed correctly again after the problem is fixed on July 15.

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation: For some time now, experts have been assuming that there are a large number of cases that have not been recorded by the Robert Koch Institute, mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.
