Baden-Württemberg: The Wasen reports back after three years

The fruit pillar and festival tents are already in place, and the big party is set to start in a few days: the Cannstatter Volksfest is returning for the 175th time. After a three-year break, despite all the crises, without any Corona requirements.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After a long forced Corona break, the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart will soon be back. From September 23rd to October 9th, the second largest folk festival (after the Oktoberfest) in Germany celebrates its comeback. Around 260 showmen, landlords and market traders are currently getting ready for the start of the festival and the opening ceremony. Today the organizers want to provide information about all topics related to the "Wasen". The traditional fruit column - the landmark of the folk festival - has been on the site since mid-August. It is traditionally decorated with grains and fruits and serves, among other things, as a meeting place for visitors.

Before Corona, the organizers had counted around 3.5 to 4 million visitors to the Wasen every year. The folk festival had been canceled in the past two years due to the pandemic. The Cannstatter Wasen should be celebrated without access restrictions. But current crises and especially the economic development do not pass the showmen by. They are currently suffering primarily from a lack of staff, said a spokesman for the event company in Stuttgart.
