Baden-Württemberg: track construction machine: heavy ballast plow recovered

Öhringen (dpa / lsw) - A good week after a burning and driverless track construction machine drove to the Öhringen train station in the Hohenlohe district, the vehicle, weighing several tons, was recovered. The gravel plow was lifted onto a low-loader with a heavy-duty crane on Thursday morning, according to a spokesman for the federal police. The machine should then be examined further in a depot in order to be able to determine the cause of the incident on Wednesday last week.

The gravel plow had been deliberately derailed to prevent an accident. A special device was placed on the tracks for this purpose. When the machine hit it, it tipped sideways. The fire brigade was then able to start extinguishing the fire. Nobody was injured.

The spokesman said it was still unclear why the construction machine for track work started to burn and was unmanned. A willful act is currently excluded. The amount of the damage caused cannot yet be quantified.
