After the mother's partner was sentenced to a long prison term, the Ellwangen district court is now dealing with the question of the mother's guilt for the death of her son.
The public prosecutor accuses the 37-year-old of having left her deceased son in the care of her partner between September 2021 and the end of October 2021, although she recognized and knew that he was abusing her son. The charge is mistreatment of wards by omission.
The almost two-year-old from Bopfingen was taken to a hospital on October 21, 2021 with numerous injuries and died there. At the end of May this year, the Ellwangen Regional Court sentenced the then partner of the child's mother to 14 years in prison for manslaughter and severe abuse of those under protection. When the verdict was announced, the presiding judge emphasized that there was no evidence that the boy's mother or siblings had caused any injuries. But whether the mother had taken care of enough is another question, the district court decided at the time.
