Baden-Württemberg: truck drivers with 2.4 per mille on the highway

Reilingen/Hockenheim (dpa/lsw) - A 34-year-old truck driver was driving on Autobahn 6 in the direction of Mannheim with 2.4 per thousand alcohol in his blood. Witnesses noticed the vehicle on Saturday evening shortly before the Hockenheim (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis) petrol station and rest area because it was driving in a serpentine manner. The truck then came off the road in a construction site area and damaged the crash barrier, the police said on Sunday. The driver continued on the Autobahn 61 in the direction of Speyer and stopped his journey at a rest area. There, highway police discovered the 34-year-old swaying heavily on the way back to his vehicle. He was not allowed to continue his journey. The damage caused by the accident amounts to 5,000 euros, according to the police.
