Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Greek tennis pro Stefanos Tsitsipas starts the short grass season full of anticipation. "It's a surface that I absolutely love," said the 23-year-old, who is number one at the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, on Tuesday. However, his results in recent years would not have confirmed this. "Honestly, I haven't been particularly happy with my results on this surface so far," said Tsitsipas, who is playing his first individual match at Weissenhof in the round of 16 on Thursday.
The fifth in the world rankings has celebrated his greatest successes on clay and hard courts. At the lawn classic in Wimbledon, where the third Grand Slam tournament of the year will take place from June 27th, he has not yet made it past the round of 16. Tsitsipas explained that the turf, which is faster than other surfaces, suits his style of play. "I'm not a player who plays from the baseline too much," he said. "I like coming to the net, like to play serve and volley."
At the French Open in Paris, the largest clay court tournament in the world, Tsitsipas, as one of the favorites for the title last week, surprisingly failed in the round of 16.
