Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) - Unknown people have stolen the spire of the university library in Heidelberg. The architectural element with a large star was stolen last month, but the theft was only noticed a few days ago, a police spokeswoman said on Thursday.
The approximate time of the crime was reconstructed by photos. At the time, there was construction site scaffolding due to renovation work on the building, which would have reached up to the roof. The perpetrators apparently took advantage of this.
According to the police, the 20-kilogram part can be easily removed from the holder. Because of the weight and dimensions of the tip, which is two meters long, several perpetrators are assumed. The diameter of the star is 55 centimeters. The police suspect that the strangers drove away their curious stolen goods in a van in the dark. According to first estimates, the material price of the element made of copper sheet is around 5000 euros.
