Baden-Württemberg: Up to 22 degrees? Record-breakingly mild New Year's Eve

Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - T-shirt weather at the turn of the year in the southwest: The German Weather Service (DWD) expected around 20 degrees for Saturday on the Upper Rhine. Especially between Baden-Baden and the Kaiserstuhl, the chances of a record heat of up to 22 degrees could be good, said a DWD expert in Stuttgart. Otherwise, New Year's Eve will be mostly mild and friendly. "There are actually no better conditions for New Year's Eve," said the meteorologist.

On the Upper Rhine, 16 to 17 degrees were measured later on Saturday morning, in Freiburg even 18 degrees. According to the DWD, the December record in the Breisgau metropolis was 21.7 degrees in 1989. "There is a good chance of breaking it," said the meteorologist.

A record was already broken in the morning: 16.2 degrees were measured on Stuttgart's Schnarrenberg at 10.20 a.m. - the previous New Year's maximum was 14.4 degrees there in 2017. The December maximum on Schnarrenberg was 17.2 Degree.

Increasingly sunny and unusually mild with the wind abating - that was the forecast for the entire south-west. According to the DWD, 2022 could only end stormy at higher altitudes. Storm gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour were expected on the Hornisgrinde in the Black Forest until Sunday.
