Baden-Württemberg: Verdi continues warning strikes in the southwest

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Verdi union is continuing to put pressure on the collective bargaining conflict in the public sector. On Thursday, more than 1,700 employees took part in temporary work stoppages, as the union in Stuttgart announced. There were campaigns in the district of Ludwigsburg, in Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Ostfildern, in Bad Friedrichshall, at the Kreissparkasse Ostalb and in the clinics in Heidenheim.

On Friday, local public transport in Stuttgart, Freiburg, Mannheim, Heilbronn, Ulm, Esslingen, Konstanz and Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe will be on strike all day. The background to the protest is the collective bargaining conflict in the federal and local public services.

The employers had submitted an offer in the second round of the nationwide negotiations in Potsdam on Thursday. The unions immediately rejected it. The offer includes, among other things, a pay increase of five percent in two steps and one-off payments totaling 2,500 euros. Verdi and the civil servants' association dbb are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more per month. The employer side had rejected the demands as "unaffordable".
