Baden-Württemberg: Vestergaard becomes Gaugisch's successor for women from Bietigheim

Bietigheim-Bissingen (dpa/lsw) - The three-time German handball champion SG BBM Bietigheim has found a successor for coach Markus Gaugisch from the 2023/24 season. The former national coach Jakob Vestergaard will take over as coach for the Bietigheimer Bundesliga handball players from the summer, the club announced on Friday. As announced, Gaugisch will give up his current double function at the end of this season after three seasons and concentrate exclusively on his role as national handball coach for women.

The 47-year-old Dane Vestergaard comes from the Danish first division club Viborg HK and received a contract with the Bundesliga club until June 30, 2025. With Viborg he celebrated the title in the Champions League in 2009 and 2010, among other things.

He was national coach from March 2015 for one year. "I'm incredibly happy. The talks were very good from the first minute. Markus and the team did an incredible job, which I would like to continue," said Vestergaard about his future job in Bietigheim.
