Baden-Württemberg: Wind farm near Lichtenstein Castle may be built

Reutlingen/Sonnenbühl (dpa/lsw) - The Reutlingen district office has approved the construction of five wind turbines in Sonnenbühl near Lichtenstein Castle, which has been controversial for years. A spokeswoman for the authorities said on Monday. However, the wind power company must undertake to switch off the turbines from sunrise to sunset during the red kite's breeding season. This applies until a camera-based shutdown system can be used. Then the systems would only have to stop when red kites fly in.

Changes in species protection, extensive nature conservation studies and two court cases had delayed the approval for years. The Administrative Court in Mannheim called for the approval process to be completed a few weeks ago.
