Baden-Württemberg: winning streak broken: KSC fails once again at HSV

Karlsruher SC's soaring flight ends, as so often, against Hamburg. The people of Baden haven't won in the Volkspark for 30 years. The performance before the break makes coach Eichner confident.

Hamburg (dpa / lsw) - Hamburger SV remains a kind of bogeyman for Karlsruher SC. The Badeners haven't won a competitive game against the Hanseatic League for ten years, even away from home for 30 years. And on Saturday evening, too, they left the field as losers in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga in the Volksparkstadion. "Not much is missing, but always a little bit," said coach Christian Eichner after his team's 0-1 (0-1) defeat. "We'll try again in six months."

After three league wins in a row, the Karlsruhe team confidently went into the next heated duel with the promotion favorites from the far north. Striker Fabian Schleusener had several chances in the first half to give the courageous guests the lead. Instead, Hamburg's Ludovit Reis scored three minutes before the break in front of 45,623 spectators with a low shot to make it 1-0.

After the change of sides, apart from a good attempt by midfielder Marvin Wanitzek, the guests didn't have much to offer offensively. One noticed "on the route that the grains have become fewer," analyzed KSC coach Eichner. His team then also missed the "push" in the form of a goal "to get the second or third air," said the 39-year-old.

Badly hit, such as after the quarter-finals at HSV in the past DFB Cup season, the Karlsruhe team did not appear this time. "We were equal," summed up Eichner. That should also give him confidence for the upcoming game against 1. FC Heidenheim. Against the Swabians, the balance of the KSC looks different: Two of the last three duels were won.
